Job Title: Warehouse Assistant
A warehouse assistant plays a vital role in maintaining the organization and efficient operation of a warehouse or distribution center. They are responsible for handling various tasks related to receiving, storing, and distributing goods, as well as ensuring the overall cleanliness and safety of the warehouse environment.
• Receiving and Inspection: Receive incoming shipments of goods, verify their accuracy against purchase orders or invoices, and inspect for any damage or discrepancies. Document and report any issues to the supervisor.
• Inventory Management: Assist in managing inventory by accurately recording and updating inventory levels using appropriate systems. Organize and label items for easy retrieval.
• Order Picking and Packing: Fulfill orders by picking the correct items from designated locations within the warehouse, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Pack items securely for shipping, following proper packaging guidelines.
• Shipping and Dispatch: Prepare outgoing shipments by properly labeling, weighing, and arranging items for shipping. Coordinate with shipping carriers and maintain shipping records.
• Equipment Operation: Operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks safely and efficiently. Adhere to proper handling and maintenance procedures.
• Storage and Organization: Properly store goods in designated locations within the warehouse to maximize space and ensure easy access. Keep the warehouse organized and tidy.
• Data Entry: Enter data related to inventory transactions, shipments, and other warehouse activities into computer systems accurately.
• Quality Control: Conduct periodic quality checks to ensure that items are in good condition and meet quality standards before shipping.
Qualifications and Skills:
• High school diploma or equivalent. Some college coursework or vocational training is a plus.
• Prior experience in a warehouse or similar role is beneficial but not always required.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and inventory management software.
• Ability to operate warehouse equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks) safely and efficiently.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Physical stamina and ability to lift, carry, and move heavy items.
